"today in the bay's" christie smith is live in san jose with more details on this man's extremely daring escape. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. anthony sanchez is a big guy. to lessen the stress on his shoulders,an jose police linked two pairs of handcuffs together when they put him in handcuffs and put his arms behind his back. he used their kindness to their advantage and gave san jose police officers the slip yesterday. he stole a police van, they say, from detectives who had just taken him into custody on drug related warrants. police handcuffed him and put him in an unmarked van. an officer was doing paperwork when sanchez slipped the cuffs off, probably moving them under his body and he took off. the keys were in the ignition at the time. fortunately the van was found two hours later where his disappearing act is quite unsettling for neighbors. >> i was kind of shocked. you know, who can do that? big guy. how can he get out of -- we're kind of don't know what to think. kind of scary. >> reporter: san jose police say there were no weap

"today in the bay's" christie smith is live at the court building in san francisco this morning and no doubt a lot of people paying attention to this one. >> reporter: that's right. good morning to you. you can bet dispensaries up and down the state will pay close attention to what happens here in san francisco today. right now about 200 cities and counties in california have some sort of limitation or ban in place. as you said, for the first time the state supreme court is going to weigh in on whether local governments actually have a right to go ahead and ban pot dispensaries within their borders. california voters legalized medical marijuana in 1996 but since then more bay area cities are limiting pot clubs or banning them all together. medical marijuana advocates believe the state laws allow for some limitations but not outlawing them all together. >> there are regulations already set up and already guidelines around it and i just feel like i think everybody that should be able to do it that wants to do it. >> reporter: about three dozen bay area cities have som

"today in the bay's" marla tellez joins us live outside templar sports in los gatos with a look at the dangerous twist to the gun control debate. >> reporter: good morning to you. templar sports has three owners but just one is taking all of the heat because the other two have not been publicly identified yet and now the attorney for co-owner robert chang says this death threat only validates chang's decision to try and protect his business partners' identities. since this sporting goods store opened on university avenue in december, hundreds of people have demanded that it move or stop selling guns. the latest town council meeting that include public comment happened this past monday. owner robert chang was there and answered many questions from the council. the next night on tuesday night, his attorney says he received that death threat written out in a letter sent to his san jose home. and he says

subdued reaction. police in the bay prepared to handle any mischief. >>> "today in the bay" christie smith live in san francisco with a look at how fans reacted to our loss. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon and laura. certainly that loss to the baltimore ravens was hard to swallow for 49ers fans. disappointing to say the least. this is one of the neighborhoods that san francisco police wanted to keep an eye on to make sure that fans and vandals didn't get out of control. sketchers is one that has been hit in the past. nothing happened at all down here it 25 people were arrested. overall fairly quiet. most of the noise this morning coming from street sweepers and power washers even working now at 5:00 in the morning this is new video we just shot. a few people did throw bottles at police near 24th street. no one was hurt. another person was arrested when he tried to light something on fire over near 16th and mission. san francisco police were ready. they had extra police officers as fans spilled out of the bars in a very somber mood. parking officers had shut down parts o

flights to new york and boston are now canceled. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live at sfo with the latest on the cancellations. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. first thing travelers are doing is walking up to arrival and departure board to make sure their flight is heading out or to see if it is canceled. there are cancellation this is morning. most travelers we spoke with have heard about this big snowstorm expected to be one of the worst in years to hit the northeast. and this morning cancellations here are up and down the board at sfo to places like boston, new york, and new jersey. now the airport duty manager tells us there are 52 cancellations so far. sort of a ripple effect that is hitting here. 35 departures, 17 arrivals have been canceled. back east early warning signs were there. snow across the midwest, rain and wind from the southeast. hundreds of flights were canceled in advance of the storm in places like jfk, laguardia,ory halaguardia, o'hare in chicago. i spoke with a traveler who got here at 3:00 this morning to get to boston. everyt

executive salaries and bonuses at financial institutions. this is 40 minutes. host: christie romero is the inspector general for the sigtarp. guest: we are the watchdog over the bailout. when congress made the bailout, they wanted a very independent watchdog. we are a criminal law enforcement agencies so we investigate crime related to the bail out and we also watch all the dollars. we try to bring transparency and bring oversight to this. that is what we are doing. host: christy romario is the inspector general and came up with a report recently that looks at executive pay for the companies that took bailout dollars. guest: pre-for those companies, the treasury has a pay czaar and his job is to set the pay packages for each of the top 25 am pleased for each year. we did a report last year looking at pay in 2009 and 2011 and we said treasury did not fail to rein in excess of pay and awarded a multi million pay packages to the top executives of these companies. for 2012, we continued and looked and once again, treasury awarded multimillion pay packages but it had gotten worse. host: her
